About The Speaker
Kim Phelan has been a journalist, editor, and marketing copywriter for over 30 years. Her career began at Illinois’ largest community college, where she produced award-winning content and publications. She also edited two healthcare technologies magazines and freelanced for a few years before landing in the dirt, metaphorically!
She became editor of an association magazine in the construction equipment industry, where she stayed and had a ball for a decade. Phelan was a resident editor and wordsmith for a marketing firm before starting her own writing business, Phelan Magazines and Marketing, in 2018. Today, she edits both Modern Casting and Casting Source magazines, as well as a 2X/year mini-magazine for kids called Melting Point.
For more than five years, Phelan was an invited magazine judge for national contests held by the American Society of Business Publication Editors and the Construction Media Association. Along the way on her career journey, Phelan took professional sabbaticals to produce her best lifetime achievements – two sons and a daughter, who are all married and living happy, productive lives.
